"Religion and Sexuality" is an interview conducted by Kristin Russo upon a man named Broderick Greer who happens to be gay and the reverend of St. Luke in the Fields Episcopal Church. The church is known to be LGBTQ-affirming. It welcomes anyone and everyone.
Reverend Greer grew up going to church every Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm, and he would go Wednesday nights and Thursday nights. He discovered that he was gay at just 5 years old, and decided he would tell his parents at age 9. Well, he didn't do it then. He waited until he was 21 to do so. He faced many troubles being a gay Christian, but that didn't stop his faith or sexuality.
Greer said he got baptized 4 different times because he thought he was going to face a penalty for being gay. He later came to terms with the fact that God loves him, and if God wanted him to be straight, he would be straight. His family supported him, and now he has his very own church in Memphis, Tennessee.
Greer's story is a testimony to all those out there who might struggle with being gay and in a religious family. Greer's family fully supported him in spite of his beliefs, and the LGBTQ community does as well. Despite the majority of Christians being harsh, there are a lot of Christians out there who are in full support of the LGBTQ community.
